Saving Up The Vicodin
On Monday, I had a consultation with the radiation doctor. He told me that the only real side-effect of radiation is a “sunburn” to the skin. I felt like saying, “Ha, that’s what they all say.” If I decide to go for it, I’m sure I’ll find some wacky way to react. I’m still eating Mentos/peppermint tea/candy canes for nausea and have strange bruises underneath where my eyebrows used to be. What next?
Oh well, I guess I can’t complain too loudly. I stayed up until 3:00 in the morning watching a movie called Aurore about a poor girl that was tortured and murdered by her dad and stepmom. I couldn’t stop crying. What’s a little nausea and bruises compared to that?
I’m also very happy about the fact that they’re “squeezing me in” at Dr. Williamson’s to take the surgical drainage tubes out today. When the receptionist reminded me about my appointment, she joked around and told me to bring food. I joked right back that I not only am I bringing food, I am also packing a sleeping bag and tent because I am not leaving until the job is done. I’ve also got a few Vicodin saved up for the occasion and a really fun driver named Debbie lined up with the eagerness to learn knitting from me and butt-warming seats in her car.
Whoooo-Hoooooo free from drains … a liberating experience !!!!!
I love your attitude – good to keep the jokes coming. I love butt warmers too.
Radiation may make your skin dry, snake like-just keep applying the Lubriderm and it won’t be too bad. It should be much, much easier than what you’ve already been through. I’m still a proud wearer of my blue markings-my own private tatoos!
best wishes,
Barbra
