On Dieting, Post Cancer Treatment
My friend, Amy, commented on my “Biking” post of July 15 that I should follow the Chinese diet of her friend in order to lose weight.
I’ve elected to follow my own diet: “Eat whatever I can grab out of the garden because it’s free.” Nothing against the Chinese; I’m sure they’re very nice people. I just can’t help being Dutch, and thereby, frugal.
I’ve been eating peaches from the yard, freezing large containers of green beans, canning pickled beets, and stir-frying onions, mushrooms, and zucchini for lunch and sometimes, dinner.
You might say I’m turning into a convenient vegetarian for the simple fact that it’s cheap food and I don’t have a cow in the back forty. Well, I do, but it’s the neighbor’s and it might not be a good idea to take him home. The cow, not the neighbor.

In addition to health care interventions and a person’s surroundings, a number of other factors are known to influence the health status of individuals, including their background, lifestyle, and economic and social conditions these are referred to as determinants of health. Thanks.
