Breast Reconstruction – Take 12
I’ve still been kicking around the idea to get a breast reconstruction done. When I’m not hyperventilating, of course. Every other day, I change my mind: “No one sees the empty hole where my breast used to be except Ken and he keeps reassuring me that he doesn’t care… Oh, just get it done… I’ll feel more like a woman and maybe sleep better because I won’t always land on my face…”
One thing is for sure. I’ve decided that if I do go through with getting a breast reconstruction done, I need to build up my stamina. I picked Oyster Dome as my goal. If hiking to the top of that sucker before the summer is out doesn’t build stamina, I don’t know what will.
When Ken (my husband) and I started out yesterday (Memorial Day) on our trek up the mountain (Blanchard) toward the Oyster Dome (spectacular view, from what I’ve heard), we were soon passed by some friends of ours: Jeff (former guide) and Rick (experienced hiker).
After taking a wrong turn (mile out of the way), we were within 1/4 mile (not very far) to the actual Oyster Dome when Jeff and Rick met us face-to-face on their way back down. I think they were genuinely shocked I made it as far as I did (they weren’t the only ones). It was a very proud moment for me.
Now, if I can just get this wretched decision made: breast reconstruction or no breast reconstruction.
Hey Marie,
That’s no small hike, especially with the extra mile. Congratulations! Thanks for the good picture of the new pack, too!
Abel,
I aim to please. I really did tell Ken, “I have to take a picture of my pack for Abel.” Hence, the photo.
