Forging Friendships

It all started with a small gift.
A friend of mine, Bonnie, gave a copy of my book to her friend, Jamie, who is currently undergoing treatment for Stage III breast cancer.
Bonnie asked if I would come sit with Jamie during her last Adriamycin chemo appointment. For those of you who have followed this blog for any length of time, you know Adriamycin is the drug that cancer patients and nurses alike refer to as the “Red Devil.” (Now, there’s a word to bring shivers up and down the spine.)
I met Jamie for the first time at that appointment. And her husband. And her father. This picture was taken the second time we met. Too bad we’re sitting surrounded by needles and nurses instead of sunshine and seagulls. Maybe someday…
