A Humorous Look at the Bright Side of Cancer... and There Is One

October 9, 2012

Breast Cancer Awareness #4

It’s that time of year again when I make my list of reasons that I’m very aware of breast cancer:

1. When I’m cleaning my toilets, I think of how I used to have uncontrollable vomiting and would “get out of” housework. I’ll take cleaning over puking any time.

2. I still find myself tiptoeing through life wondering when the bomb is going to drop and I find out cancer has spread throughout my body.

3. I’m wearing more and more makeup on my eyes – especially fancy eye shadows – because I have eyelashes again.

4. I literally flinch when I find out another woman has just been diagnosed with breast cancer because I know what she is going to go through.

5. Thanksgiving seems a little more special because I didn’t think I was going to make it to this one.

6. When the oncologist tells me it’s time for another mammogram, I march my hiney down to the clinic within a month or two; for me, that’s progress.

7. I spent so much time with my naturopath while I was going through cancer treatment (she scraped me off the floor more than once) that we’ve become friends outside of the office.

8. I cry constantly at every Hallmark or true-story movie that I watch. Life is so dramatic.

9. I am content. Once you face death, you get a little more thankful for the small things in life.

10. My fake boob finally has a new home and I don’t miss it one bit.
