Nurse Instructions After a Mastectomy
I slept through the night for the most part and managed to take a bath just before the third visiting nurse arrived. She was very professional as she listened to my heart, lungs, and bowels; took my temperature and blood pressure; drained the tubes; and checked the bandages. My arm was a bit swollen. She said I probably overdid it yesterday with the knitting and bread-baking I did, so I’m to keep my arm elevated above my heart a couple of times today.
But, the main word of professional advice she had for me was, “Today, you must have a poopie.”
Even after these major milestones in life (mastectomy being one of them), it always boils back down to the basics, doesn’t it?
Amen Sister! Basics are good…
See you later today! Tami
Welcome home, Maria, been keeping you in my thouhgts and prayers…do you need any meals right now or maybe better next week? Wow, home in one day, are you up for visitors, we will be gone tomorrow so hopefully next week works. love, Rae
my doctor called it a drive through mastectomy. creepy huh? I spent more hours in the hospital with my lumpectomy. sheesh…anyway, don’t you love those drainage tubes? You actually get a visiting nurse? They are more advanced on your side of the mountains. I had a friend come and help me, bless her heart, my entire family retched and ran when I tried to drain the tubes myself. Nurses they will not be! If I lived closer I’d make the bread for you. Girl….one store bought loaf will not kill you! So get some r&r. Someday I will make it to that area again. And maybe bring some bread!
I love you Marie! Your spirit is amazing! Blogging the day after surgery. I LOL when I read that you wrote “NOT THIS ONE” on the “good” breast.
Thinking of you and wondering if you need size 15 bamboo knitting needles and some more yarn?
love
