A Humorous Look at the Bright Side of Cancer... and There Is One

March 9, 2010

That’s Not Something You Hear Every Day #3

In talking to a dear friend recently–one of my “breast cancer friends”–I learned that I will not be able to lift more than ten pounds ever again with my right arm due to the mastectomy.

When I go to Dr. Williamson, Dr. Hoffman, and Haley next week for my various doctor appointments, I could ask them “what they think my prognosis is” or “how great a chance of getting ovarian cancer I have” or other such weighty questions of life.

What I really want to know is: “Can I go bowling with one boob?”

  1. Ria,
Croquet is all fine and dandy, but now that it’s an option that I can’t, I WANT to go bowling.

  2. I’ve always been able to bowl just as well (just as poorly, actually) with my left hand as my right. Or you could do like my friend’s daughter and sit down on the floor and shove the ball with both feet. :)

  3. Abel,
Don’t think I won’t do it either. I’m good at embarrassing myself in public.
The other day, I was near a basketball hoop and told myself I wasn’t going to leave until I made a basket.
It only took me 10 tries and that was doing the “granny shot”. I was pretty proud of myself.
Oh, how my life has changed!
    Have a great weekend.

  4. actually, we have a game called bocce` ball. You play it outdoors – I suppose if you have a large enough room, you could play it indoors….the ball you throw is under 1# and the game is fun and competitive. If you guys ever make it here we will have to play it.

  5. anndd…. you don’t have to wear funky shoes – beer is optional, wine is good, margaritas – even better.
