A Humorous Look at the Bright Side of Cancer... and There Is One

My Tweezers… Are No Longer On Vacation

Why is it that when my hair decides to start growing back again, it appears on my upper lip and outside the natural confines of my eyebrows first?

Only women will be able to relate to this complaint. Men love it when hair appears on their upper lip.

Of course, I’m ecstatic with my new peach fuzz. There was a bit of a mix-up because one of the nurses told me my hair would start growing in now that I’ve switched from the Adriamycin “Red Devil” chemotherapy to the Taxol chemotherapy, but another nurse said I would have “hair loss.” What hair loss? I had no hair left to lose.

The tweezers have been dusted off and put back to use. Now, I have to start saving my pennies so that when I have a full head of hair, I’ll be able to dye it. If I didn’t have grey hair before (which I did), I will surely have it now. Cancer’s a stressful business.

  1. I’m doing some strange computer shenanigans to be able to leave this comment. I don’t know why I had to do a headstand for five minutes and reboot the computer twice, but it works! Maybe my computer just hates me. Anyway, speaking as a man, I for one don’t like hair on my upper lip. But Rachel does, and so I have it! The things we do for love… :)

I think you should dye your hair blue when it comes back in. That’s what my mom did when it turned grey.

  2. Maybe it will come in beautiful wavy curls or something. Very cool! I’m so glad you are doing better.

  3. lovely lovely peach fuzz….soon it will turn to duck’s down and then everyone will want to touch it. Thanksgiving hair? or maybe Christmas hair?? Mine is grey….way greyer than it ever was before chemo….but like you say…chemo is a stressful business! And you know once you are done you can wear the grey like a badge! And if anyone asks you can tell why!! Sorry about the feet not going where the rest of you wants to go. Too bad we don’t live closer..I would let you borrow my recumbent exercise bike. It is what got my feet and balance back into shape. Good sign the tweezers are out. My hair dresser keeps on wanting to wax mine. I keep on telling her I am real good with the ones I have. Lost ’em once and kind of proud of them this time around even though they aren’t too much to look at…
you go girl – getting closer to the finish everyday!
ps i love love my phlox…no mt bluett….sad but true.
