Letter #19 To My Benefactor
Dear Benefactor,
The reason I haven’t written for a little while is because I have been hiking and hiking and hiking.
I’ve made it to the top (uncharacteristically) so many times this year. Yes, I really took this picture; I promise it is not some photo I ripped from the Internet.
I’ve been pushing and pushing myself to put on the Keens you bought me and plod (without stopping) up that trail to get to the lake. The elevation gain is only 950 feet, but that’s better than doing the elevation gain from my bed to the couch of zero, isn’t it?
Like I said on Facebook on January 9:
I turned 49 today. While I sometimes feel like I’m 49 going on 100, I have nothing to complain about. I have been partying for four days already….
I just really wish I could get my stamina back. It’s been years and years since I quit chemotherapy, for Pete’s sake. On this particular hike, this is what I encountered:
3 dogs including one German shepherd
1 shirt emblazoned with a marijuana leaf
1 hula hoop… no, I am not making this stuff up
1 rainbow-colored, skintight yoga pants
0 bears
0 cougars
Sincerely,
Marie
