A Humorous Look at the Bright Side of Cancer... and There Is One

Guess I Still Have Chemo Brain

I thought maybe when I switched from the “Red Devil” chemotherapy regimen to the current Taxol/Lapatanib cocktail I’ve been receiving, my chemo brain would go away. It has improved somewhat, but there are still vestiges of stupidity left.

Early this week, I purchased three new non-stick pans for the kitchen.

Now, it is one of my pet peeves that these supposedly “last forever, guaranteed for 25 years” pans have to be replaced constantly because certain family members cannot get it through their thick noggins that a) you cannot use metal spatulas, forks, or knives on these pans; b) you cannot throw the pans into the sudsy water (Yes, I still wash dishes by hand and don’t own a dishwasher) and then throw silverware on top of said pans; and c) it is disgusting, and probably unhealthy, to use pans that are all scratched up from previously-mentioned abuse.

Yesterday morning, I was in a hurry to meet two close friends for homemade chicken soup, and didn’t have time to explain all of these rules (again) to the family before I left, so I thought I’d be smart and leave a note for them instead.

I grabbed a piece of scratch paper and wrote in firm handwriting: “Do not even think of using petal in these new pans. I will hunt you down. Your loving mother. xoxo.”

My friends and I had a wonderful time visiting and yakking together. When I came home hours later, the first thing the husband and kids said to me was, “So, we can’t use petals in our new pans, huh? Ha ha ha ha ha. We’ve been laughing about that all day.”

I tell you, I get no respect around here. At least my scrambled eggs won’t have metal in them.
