Backpack Shopping
Let’s just say, right off the bat: I hate shopping.
The last two days, I’ve been looking for a backpack that fits me properly. I’ve been to REI in Bellingham, Costco in Canada, two local sporting goods stores, and Value Village.
What I want to know is, what brilliant person thought up the great idea to call the new-fangled water thingy-ma-boober included in these backpacks (yes, I said thingy-ma-boober) a bladder?
Guess some marketing department thought that sounded better than “plastic sack of water”. Shows what they know. Good luck on the backpack shopping. Are you looking for a daypack, or something for multi-night trips?
I’m sure you’ve tried some already, but my two cents is that I’ve always liked Gregory packs.
Abel,
That’s so funny because I just bought a Gregory pack this afternoon (after spending the last 3 days looking, looking, and looking EVERYWHERE from Goodwill to Value Village to REI, Costco, Sports Warehouse, and online).
I was originally looking for a daypack but for not much more, I bought one that can fit a sleeping bag and a small dog.
Just kidding about the dog. We don’t have one anymore; she moved in with her boyfriend down the road.
Have a great long weekend.
Glad you found a good pack–that’s a major accomplishment in a hiker’s life! What model did you get?
Abel,
It’s the Z40. Or Zed-40 if you’re from Canada.
I’ve always thought the Z55 was a great pack. I’m not familiar with the Z40, but being in the same family, I’m sure its great also.
Funny how they spell it “Z” but say it “Zed” Silly Canadians. :)
Abel,
Doesn’t the number mainly refer to how many liters the pack can hold? Since I’m already carrying… say, 50 pounds extra than you (on my behind), I wouldn’t be able to get the Zed-55 off the ground.
