That’s Not Something You Read Every Day #7
This morning, I stumbled across a poem my son Jonathan wrote for Brit Lit back in 2013. I have misplaced this piece of paper so many times. (I’m more of a writer than a housekeeper; what can I say?) I thought I better post it before I misplaced it again.
I especially like the title he chose:
Cancer Sucks
A bad day I remember is April 4.
Why, you may ask, it is your birthday right?
That is so, but that day I almost swore.
Cancer, the doctor said, that you must fight.
My mom was the strongest of all of us.
Not once did she cry or blame God for this.
All she did was chastise us: “It’s no fuss!
I’ll write, and blog, and health I shall not miss.”
Countless chemotherapy treatments done,
Still the strongest woman I know has trust,
In the God who made the earth and the sun.
To be a better son is a big must.
Be thankful for everything you get,
Because losing them will make you upset.
-Jonathan deHaan
So, this blog post is a bit more serious than the last one I did in this vein, but it’s not every day that you get a lovely poem written about you. As to Jonathan? I think I’ll keep him.
You really have the best kids, so sweet makes me cry
Julia,
I am very grateful for my kids and husband. It seems like hard things that come our way either a) break families up or b) bring them closer together. Thankfully, the latter is what happened to me.
