Dear Fran Drescher #25
Dear Fran,
My aunt died on May 30. Yes, she had cancer. Seems like everyone is getting cancer nowadays.
Aunt Ann was a wonderful woman.
At the funeral, what stood out to me the most is the love of life that she possessed—evident in the love for her husband of 48 years, her children, grandchildren, and friends—and the great sense of humor that she had. I also learned that she was addicted to “Little House on the Prairie” and infomercials.
During her last few weeks on earth, she was watching yet another QVC commercial extolling the greatness of some miracle red pot for cooking. She turned to her daughter Jenn and said, “It’s too bad that I’m going to die, because I would really like to get that pot.”
Her favorite flower was the carnation; the casket (made by her son) was draped with white and yellow carnations along with yellow roses because she had instructed her daughter Michelle: “You make sure there are lots of yellow flowers.”
Like I said before, I’m still struggling with survivors’ guilt. Why was this amazing woman taken and I get to stay here and plant yellow roses in my garden?
All I know is, I was blessed to call this woman my aunt.
Best friends always,
Marie
