That’s Not Something You Dream Every Day #1

March 11, 2016: Watching "Eddie the Eagle."

Went to  “Eddie the Eagle” and Red Robin last night with friends and family. It was nice to get my mind off coughing and my upcoming CT scan.

When I got home, I checked Facebook before going to bed. A friend had emailed me about my latest blog post: “I’ve been praying for you every day. I hope you are feeling calm in this waiting time. And if you are nervous—well that’s totally okay too!”

I answered her, “Thanks for the prayers. I’m not overly nervous. I’m actually a bit more annoyed and kind of wishing I had not brought up my cough – ha! I was just shocked that he [the doctor] was going to pursue figuring out why I’m coughing. I kept saying, “I’m sure it’s just allergies” (which is truly what I think it is), but he said, “With your history….”

Then, this morning, I had a very strange three-part dream:

1. I had two “mushroom tumors”—each over six inches long and three inches wide—sticking straight out from each shin. I called to Ken to come help me; he rolled me over and told me that all the skin on my back was falling off and therefore, I had necrotizing fasciitis. I kept saying, “Yeah, but what about my mushroom tumors? What about my mushroom tumors?….”

2. Suddenly I was running into a church and getting the dish drain out because it was my turn to do dishes.

3. I high-tailed it into a different church because it was my turn to play piano for praise team. I had missed the first 45 minutes of the practice and I knew that church started in 30 minutes. Panic was beginning to set in. Paul, the band leader, pointed to me. It was my turn to play a two-measure riff. I missed it. He got mad and told “Lanna” (whoever she is) that she was going to take over for me.

While I’ve been known to have wild dreams, usually it’s because I’ve taken Vicodin for one surgery or another. This dream caught me a bit off guard. Either a) I’m a bit more nervous than I’m letting on about this cough, or b) I need to get to bed earlier, or c) I need to quit eating junk food before bed, or d) I should swear off all mushrooms.
