A Humorous Look at the Bright Side of Cancer... and There Is One

Chemo-Canasta

Chemo CanastaI don’t recommend it. Not if you want to win, that is.

Yesterday, my youngest son, Jonathan, came to my Taxol infusion with me (he’ll do anything to get out of school, won’t he?) and we played Canasta for three solid hours. Normally, I’m sharp as a whip and can beat his hiney, but yesterday, he stomped me: 5,000 to 350. We drank hot chocolate, ate granola bars, played cards, and pretended we were on an airplane with flight attendants (nurses) asking us if we wanted anything: warm blankets, food, tea….

Pretty fun day under the circumstances.

  1. Canasta used to be the time-waster of choice around the grad student office when I was getting my master’s. What a great game! Of course, I probably can’t even remember how to play anymore, so if you want to beat someone and feel better about your canasta skills again, I can provide that.

  2. Vern…how come I don’t get to play games with you at chemo? Arrgh…I’m always late to the party…
    Love you!
