Cancer & Cabbage
The naturopathic doctor, Haley, this morning once again gave me… the speech: “Sugar is very bad for you… the insulin glucose something-something directly makes cancer grow…” I was still glowing from the fact that I lost 12 pounds since my last visit on 2/17 and didn’t want to have my spirits dampened.
Haley doesn’t think much of my simple philosophy of eating healthy during the week and partying with the cream puffs on the weekend.
On the way home, I stopped by the food co-op (you know the place, the one where people in dreadlocks and “Moses sandals” shop). I found a heavy, healthy looking red cabbage and put it in the basket with the rest of my healthy stuff. No sugar in any way, shape, or form.
At the checkout, I watched the numbers flash by on the screen. “That cabbage was $8.00?” I asked the checker politely, when what I wanted to do was hop on the counter and yell at the top of my lungs, “HUSH-A-KREE’-NESS!” which is a Dutch word that basically means holy crap.
Rachel says “That’s a little pricey for cabbage!” I’ll jump up with you on the counter and yell “Quatch!” (Which is German for “That’s baloney!”)
Well, at least the cabbage takes a good picture. (It’d better, for $8, right?) Plus, you health is worth it.
Marie, I love your hair, you look great girl!!! Kaaran
Oh man, I love that word. You should have tried that little trick and started wailing that you had cancer and couldn’t afford it..maybe she woulda gone down in price!!
Abel,
The cabbage did weigh a ton. Either that or I’m still a wimp after surgery. If I hadn’t been in such a hurry, I would have gone to double-check the price.
I better allow more time for shopping the next time before I start yelling “Quatch!” and other assorted foreign words.

Thanks, Kaaran. It definitely is easy to take care of. A few squirts of Clairol Conditioning Mousse and I’m ready to roll.

Daughter,
You should love that word… you hear it enough.
Didn’t want to play the cancer card. I try to reserve that for really important things like getting kids to help out around the house and… oops. You’re onto me.
Love you.
Mom
I love your hair!! Why would you buy so much cabbage anyway? I never was a huge fan of it. Take care.
Roberta
Thanks, Roberta.
I like cabbage and it’s supposed to be good for preventing breast cancer.
Should have ate tons of it when I was a kid!
Have a great rest of the week.

Wow, that is a big expensive cabbage, how can you eat that fast enough? Or do you make that “dutch” cabbage apple stuff?? Congrats on the weight loss and your hair looks cute! :)
Is this Rachel W?
I’ve been eating a lot of salad with cabbage in it. What’s the Dutch cabbage apple stuff?
Thanks. Still debating about the hair color… gray or dye it blond? Don’t have any choice on the length yet.
-Marie
Wow, that is a lot. Soon you could grow your own organic cabbage in your garden. Then you won’t have to use big dutch words! Take care, the hair is looking good!
Thanks, Betty.
Is cabbage hard to grow? I better talk to the vegetable-grower of the family and put in a request.
I’m more in charge of the flowers and herbs.
Now, if the hair would grow just a bit faster…
